Bement's junior boarders, ages 9 through 15, live in new dorms built in 2010 and restored colonial homes with dorm parents who commit themselves to monitoring closely each student's personal as well as academic growth. Our rich, traditional school curriculum motivates and challenges students with thematically coordinated courses, a nationally recognized fine arts program, and diverse athletic offerings. The student/teacher ratio is 6:1 and class size averages 12 students. Upper school students engage in the Leadership in Environmental and Advisory Program (LEAP) designed to increase their competency in outdoor experiences such as camping and wayfinding with a focus on Leave No Trace (LNT), conflict resolution, and community building skills.

Cardigan Mountain School was established in 1945 as a junior boarding school for boys in grades 6-9. In addition to providing a great education, Cardigan responds to the developmental needs of boys through a distinctive program that fosters their intellectual, physical, emotional, and spiritual growth.

Founded in 1866 and located 25 miles from Boston in Southborough, Massachusetts, Fay School is an independent, coeducational day and boarding school for 450 students in Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 9. The School’s boarding program (grades six through nine) serves 110 students from throughout the United States and more than 15 foreign countries, forming a true multicultural community that is a unique and defining aspect of the School. A SMALL, FRIENDLY SCHOOL FOR A MAXIMUM OF 25 HIGH-ABILITY BOYS WHO NEED A GOOD EDUCATION, A MANAGEABLE WORLD, AND AN UNUSUAL AMOUNT OF ADULT ATTENTION. Traditional courses taught in small groups of 3-5 boys put every student near the teacher. Family-style dorms house 5-6 students. Outdoor activities include sledding, canoeing, hiking, camping, and caring for farm animals. Informally-played sports include soccer, touch football, Wiffleball, and tennis. Arts activities include drawing, pottery, music lessons, and drama. All faculty live on campus. All meals are eaten together in a family-style setting. Weekends include both scheduled activities and time for relaxation and independent play. Hampshire Country School may be an especially good choice for those boys who find large schools overwhelming or overstimulating, including boys with nonverbal learning disabilities (NLD/NVLD), Asperger's, or ADHD. HCS is primarily a middle school, but students may also enroll at the upper elementary grade or the start of high school.

Hillside School is a small, structured, challenging academic environment for boys in grades 4-9. The school is intentionally kept small, offering a 7:1 student-faculty ratio so that the boys can get the most out of their academic experience. The staff at Hillside are very supportive and caring; they serve as teachers, dorm parents, coaches, and advisors. Hillside staff know the boys closely– their strengths, areas of challenge, and passions. The school's average enrollment is 140 students, with students from 10 countries and 8 states. The community is inclusive, friendly and nurturing which allows the boys to easily make friends and learn about many different cultures and nationalities. Hillside offers more than 15 competitive sports, including hockey, basketball, baseball, soccer, tennis, golf, track and field, etc. In addition, students can experience a fully functional farm with fruits/ vegetables. What sets Hillside apart is its state-of-the-art Innovation Lab (iLab), where all boys can learn coding, robotics, rocket making, 3D printing and laser cutting software. Our ninth-grader graduate from Hillside as confident, independent leaders who will continue their education at some of the most competitive and reputable private high schools in New England and across the country.

Family-style living, outdoor education, and a hands-on approach to academics are unique qualities of our program. Our 3:1 student/teacher ratio provides students with 24-hour parenting ensuring continual learning opportunities. Skiing, mountaineering, camping, riding, work-jobs and studio and performing arts are integral parts of our curriculum. In grade nine students travel off-campus for an experiential study of culture and environment. Oakland School is a small boarding and day school for children ages 6-14 with learning disabilities including dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia, non-verbal learning disabilities or visual and auditory processing disorders. The program also is well-suited to those with ADHD or organizational difficulties. The combination of daily one-to-one instruction, an emphasis on basic skills including Oakland’s specialty of teaching reading, a highly-experienced and nurturing staff and a success-oriented environment has enabled scores of children to reach their academic and personal potential since 1950.

Rectory, located on 138 picturesque acres in NE CT, is devoted to the total development of each student in a nurturing environment that celebrates the individual and helps each student discover his and her passion for learning. Our flexible curriculum, caring faculty, small classes, and extensive offerings in the arts and athletics serve students across a broad range of abilities. The linchpin is our Individualized Instruction Program (IIP), which can provide tutoring each academic day, whether for support or enrichment. Founded in 1889, St. Catherine’s Academy is a Catholic school with a military tradition for boys in transitional kindergarten - 8th grade. Building self-esteem is the goal of the Adventure Education Program that includes camping trips to the White Mountains and use of the on-campus ropes course.
